What background colour does an Italian passport photo need?
Plain white, confirmed directly on Italian consular guidance pages — unlike Germany and France, Italy does not accept a light grey or light blue alternative.
Can I wear a religious head covering in an Italian passport photo?
Yes, if worn for religious reasons — but the face from chin to forehead and both sides must remain clearly visible.
What's the head-size requirement for an Italian passport photo?
The face should cover 70-80% of the photo from chin to forehead, which works out to roughly 32mm to 36mm on the 35×45mm frame — the same ICAO-based range used by Germany, France, and Japan.
