  • Background must be plain white and uniform, with no shadows.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Spanish passport photo the same size as a UK or German one?

No — Spain uses a smaller 26×32mm frame, not the 35×45mm ICAO size most other European countries use. A photo cropped for Germany or Italy will be the wrong size for a Spanish passport.

Do I need to bring a passport photo to my appointment in Spain?

Usually yes, but there's an exception: if you renewed your national ID card (DNI) within the previous 2 years, you may not need to submit a new photo for the passport.

What's the head-size requirement for a Spanish passport photo?

The head should fill 70-80% of the frame, which works out to roughly 22.4mm to 25.6mm on the 26×32mm photo — tighter than most other European formats since the whole frame is smaller.
